Independent lab test

15 everyday stains, tested on a treated rug

A cream viscose carpet treated with Fabric + Textile was spotted with 15 stains. One set was blotted straight away. The other was left for 24 hours, then cleaned with a standard spot remover. Each result is rated on the AATCC Gray Scale, where 5 means no stain is left.

Top score in the spray test

Fabric + Textile scored the maximum water-repellency rating of 100 under IS 390, the Indian standard spray test: no sticking or wetting of the fabric surface at all. Tested by an independent NABL-accredited textile laboratory in Mumbai.

Test method: resistance to staining, commercial carpet. Sample: white/cream viscose carpet. Results apply to the sample tested; blot spills as soon as possible for the best result.

Where to use it

Suitable for

  • Sofas, chairs, cushions and headboards
  • Rugs and carpets (wool and synthetic)
  • Awnings, umbrellas, outdoor cushions and marquees
  • Curtains, tablecloths, uniforms and jackets
  • Cotton, wool, silk, polyester, nylon, linen and canvas

Not suitable for

  • Oil and grease stains: blot them quickly, as no fluorine-free product fully repels oil
  • Items already treated with another protector (test first)
  • Waterproofing seams or tents under pressure: it is water-repellent, not waterproof

How to apply Fabric + Textile

Before you start

  • Vacuum or brush to remove dust and loose fibres.
  • Clothing: wash first and rinse once more in plain water. Detergent and fabric-softener residues block the coating.
  • Fabric must be fully dry. Test on a hidden area first.

Application

  1. Dilute 1 part concentrate with 25 parts deionised water (1:25), recommended for Indian conditions. The workable range is 1:19 to 1:39. Mix thoroughly before use.
  2. Spray from about 15 cm in even, overlapping passes until the fabric is uniformly damp, not soaked.
  3. On upholstery and pile, work it in with a soft brush so every fibre is covered.
  4. On carpet, apply a second wet-on-wet coat straight away, brushing between coats.
  5. Let it dry with good airflow. Touch dry in 1–2 hours; ready to use after 24 hours.
  6. Check: water should bead on the surface. Re-treat any patches that darken.

Coverage: 1 litre of diluted product treats 60–80 sq ft of fabric. A medium to large 3-seater sofa takes about 1.6–2.5 L. Very absorbent fabrics and deep pile need more. 1 litre of concentrate makes 26 litres at 1:25.

Full instructions, safety and storage are in the technical and safety data sheets below. Always test on a small, hidden area first.

Questions

About using Fabric + Textile.

How does Nanoman Fabric + Textile work?

Nanoman Fabric + Textile contains specifically modified functional nanoparticles that self-assemble and produce a two-dimensional net matrix on the fabric’s fibres. The surface is then hydrophobic (water repellent). Water simply beads and rolls off the coated surface taking dirt and other impurities with it.

How do I apply Nanoman Fabric + Textile?

Application may differ depending on the material involved. In all cases, please ensure that the surface is clean and dry. In the case of carpets, you should thoroughly clean and vacuum before applying.

Spray evenly over the entire surface from a distance of about 30cm until it looks slightly damp.

For leather, please then wipe in with a clean lint free cloth to ensure a good even coverage.

For carpets, gently rub the coating into the fibres using a brush or squeegee. Then, after 5-10 minutes apply a second coating.

All coated items should be left for 24 hours before using to allow for the coating to dry and become fully bonded with the fabric.

Nanoman Fabric + Textile cannot be applied to materials that are already coated with a fabric protection or where the materials themselves are designed to be water resistant.

What makes Nanoman different from other fabric enhancements?

Traditional treatments use chemical coatings to give the textiles performance characteristics. Instead of overwhelming the fabric with a heavy coating, Nanoman coatings are enhanced through the use of nanotechnology – tiny molecules that permanently attach to fibres without clogging the fabric weave to add superior performance without compromising the look, feel or comfort of the fabric.

Will Nanoman harm my surfaces?

Definitely not. In fact, Nanoman coating creates a protective barrier that will actually strengthen the fibre surface. This barrier is only 100-150 nanometres thick, which is invisible to the human eye. Nanoman is UV resistant and will not affect the haptic of the fibre.

What is the durability of Nanoman Fabric + Textile?

The durability depends on several factors, such as the frequency of use or wear and environmental factors. Items subject to heavy use and cleaning, such as carpets and clothing, will be protected for up to 6 months. Items such as furniture, awnings, marquees and other coverings will generally be protected for up to 2 years. We recommend that you re-apply Nanoman Fabric + Textile, in accordance with these time frames in order to provide continuous protection.

What are the recommended cleaning instructions for garments protected with Nanoman?

Wash the garment as you would any other garment, following the washing instructions provided on the manufacturer’s label. Maximum recommended water temperature for washing is 40° C. Only a little washing powder is needed, because the fibres are not as dirty. Please only use pH neutral washing detergents if possible. Fabric softeners and dry cleaning are not recommended for Nanoman treated fabrics. The chemicals found typically in dry cleaning solutions contaminate the fabric and can negatively affect performance of Nanoman Fabric + Textile.

Do I have to coat textiles on both sides?

No. Just coat the exterior surface that you are wishing to protect.

Can I dry coated textiles in a tumble dryer?

Yes, tumble dryable textiles can be put into a tumble dryer without damaging the coating.
